The Okanagan is a wine lovers delight in a setting that's simply spectacular and you can drive from winery to winery soaking up the sun and warm dry climate during the summer months.. there’s over 35 winery’s in and around Penticton alone.
- One you must add to the top of the list though is Upper Bench Winery which is located just outside of Pentiction’s downtown. Its here that award-winning winemaker Gavin Miller produces crisp, dry whites and big, bold reds from their seven acre, sustainably farmed, hand tended vineyard.
- All of Upper Bench’s grapes come from the mature vines on site. There are seven varietal natually farmed and hand-tended vineyard…and a select few other vineyards on the Naramata Bench.
- Gavin passion for the vineyard and quality wines is expressed through his signature, hands-off, minimalist winemaking approach. He’s known in the industry for his Bordeaux style reds and has a distinct way of showcasing a wine’s innate varietal character. This shines through in his wines as each varietal at Upper Bench literally expresses its roots.
- The region is fast becoming known for its Pinot noir which once was the sole domain of the French and later the Kiwi’s but now the unique climate, soil profiles and quality water supply has allowed this region to become a serious contender in supplying world class Pinots.
- Its not just about the wine here too, Gavin’s wife, cheesemaker Shana Miller is producing hand-crafted artisan cheese which goes perfect with your wine. They have wood fired pizza as well making this a great destination for lunch.
