Sticky toffee pudding
Programme: Delish Destinations: Republic of Ireland
Broadcast date: October 7th, 2018
Story: Sticky toffee pudding
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
What better way to finish up a food tour than with dessert. Trevor meets a local dessert maker who makes, quite possibly, the best sticky toffee pudding in all of Ireland.
- The final stop on the Boyne food trail is Kilmessan in Meath County, home to Ireland’s famous dessert maker Catriona Flaherty and her business “What’s for Pudding” – renowned for some of the most decadent desserts in the country.
- Catriona is a multiple award winner and started her business ‘What’s for Pudding’ in a small shared kitchen four years ago. She’s grown the business from there, converting an old hay shed into her very own commercial kitchen space.
- There are three main desserts that Catriona churns out on a regular basis: chocolate pudding, ginger and orange pudding and the famous sticky toffee pudding.
- Catriona prides her pudding in their simplicity and tastiness, with pure basic ingredients. The business came about through a mix of nostalgia and seeking new adventure. Catriona’s passion was always in food and as a child was incredibly fond of dessert, or “pudding” as her mother would call it.
- After baking, the sticky date is drenched in an incredible sticky toffee sauce and served with cream and fresh strawberries – the best way to eat it Catriona says!
