If you are looking at growing something a little different, but still want something quick and easy, Swan Valley Nursery’s Asian herb range is an excellent place to start.
- The Chinese cabbage has been a popular herb since the 1400s. It’s so healthy that it was grown in special chambers on the International Space Station, and makes a fantastic kimchee – a fermented product that boosts the stomach’s microbiome.
- Oriental spinach is a delicious herb that is eaten stem and all. It has a cooking time of just seconds, so make sure to add it to a stir-fry at the last moment, or to serve it lightly blanched for the best results.
- Vietnamese mint can be grown in either a semi-shaded area of the garden, or in a pond as a water plant. It adds a peppery and spicy flavour to salads and is delicious in both soups and fish dishes. It can be easily grown from cuttings, and should take no more than 7 days for it to develop roots in the ground.
- If you are interested in growing your own range of herbs, the Swan Valley Nursery has an excellent selection available for you – look out for the Taste of Asia range at your local nursery.
